Wellness Tools

There are many ways to augment your daily health routine. These are 3 of my favorite!

Recently we invested in an infrared sauna... and I am in love! We've only had it for a few short weeks but the whole family is enjoying it. My skin is loving it... especially with the cold Calgary winters. My routine is to dry brush, sauna for 45 minutes followed up by a cold shower and then jojoba oil. aaahhhhh so lovely and refreshing!

Detoxification is always my goal, whenever I add anything to my health regime I am always looking for ways to enhance my detoxification pathways and cleanse! This has been a beautiful add on for me. The time spent in the sauna is either used for meditation and journaling or catching up on podcasts.

Interested in trying dry brushing?

Here's how:

Start on dry skin before bathing.

Work in gentle circular, upward motions, then longer, smoother strokes.

Always begin at the ankles in upwards movements towards the heart - the lymphatic fluid flows through the body towards the heart, so it's important that you brush in the same direction.

Your back is the only exception to the preceding rule; brush from the neck down to the lower back.

Ensure you shower to wash away the dead skin cells and impurities.

While showering try alternating temperatures from hot to cold which will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bringing more blood to the outer layers of the skin.

Finish with a nice oil massage to nourish the skin. Use coconut, avocado, flax or sesame oil.

If it's good to eat, its good to put on your skin.

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic ritual which involves placing a tablespoon of oil (either coconut, sesame or olive oil) into your mouth and then swishing it around for 5-20 minutes. Pull it between your teeth, before spitting it out. Make sure you DO NOT swallow the oil as you will ingest the toxins you are trying to wipe out. Afterwards, brush your teeth with an all-natural fluoride-free toothpaste, and rinse your mouth out.

Make sure to spit it out in a garbage can and not down the sink if you are using coconut oil. Some of the benefits include: teeth whitening, increase in energy, detoxifying, and general oral hygiene.
